FELLOWSHIP DESCRIPTION
The Future Leaders Incubator Educator Project prepares and supports the next generation of visionary educators from underrepresented backgrounds to begin a long-time career and leadership trajectory in PK-12 education in urban schools.
ED. PROJECT VISION:
The education sector needs to be reflective of the student populations we serve; the FLI Education Project will provide access, diversity, and opportunity to the next generation of leadership of color for PK-12 urban public schools by supporting first-time educators to secure careers as entry-level teachers, to be successful in graduate school and teacher certification programs, and to develop key competencies that will provide entry to school leadership roles with transformative impact in their schools.
Our ability to support, coach, and select “right-fit” schools for high-potential candidates of color will improve educational experiences for children, support teacher and leader retention, and provide access to much-needed potential educators to alternate teacher certification pathways already being supported by urban PK-12 schools in urban, minority-majority communities that struggle to recruit, retain, and support BIPOC teachers and leaders.
OUR SUPPORTIVE APPROACH:
- Independent and group coaching sessions, practice and preparation meetings.
- On-site support and feedback, mentoring, and collaboration through milestones, and at-your-pace.
- Networking opportunities, support, and access to dedicated professionals in the NYC education arena.
- On-going support and training in access and opportunity to inclusive school practices, models, and design geared towards educators of color.
MEMBERS ALSO RECEIVE THESE TIERED SUPPORTS:
STAGE 1
BASIC TRAINING
A series of “basic training classes” with topics spanning from picking the right residency program to how to deliver a demo-lesson for your interview and preparing for being a teacher resident and starting grad-school.
STAGE 2
CERT. CAMP
A series of “certification camp classes” to prepare for Teacher Certification Exams.
Support with graduate-school classes, assignments, deadlines, and priorities.
STAGE 3
LEADER SEALS
A series of “Leader Seals classes” to help develop and hone long-term leadership skills and competencies geared at the passions, goals and career aspirations of Envision Leadership collaborative members.
